ON THE BACK BURNER

I was waiting at a traffic light and absent mindedly thought about dogs who drove with us. Starting with the late great Wally. He hated the horn. Every time we used it, he barked ,furiously. He also hated the man who sold flowers at the corner of lake Shore Drive and Wacker. He carried on, scratching at the window, snarling. He looked like he could tear you apart, and he probably could have. d to close the windows when we came to this street vender. This was before AC in cars. He's the dog that when we couldn't find him at our cottage, we started the VW bug. He always came running. I think he wanted to be the first to attack the car. Then we had Jake, the snake. We drove with him around my neck, with his body wedged behind me and the car seat. He stayed there for hours. Once we were on the highway, going 60 miles an hour, and Jake decided to jump from the back seat into the front. He missed and knocked the gear shift that was on the floor. The car reacted and started to roll to a stop. That was scary, until we realized what had happened and got back in gear. Until we got into mini vans, we had bucket seats so the dogs could walk through . Cricket didn't get to drive too many places. By the time we got her, we had stopped traveling back and forth to Illinois and Michigan. Some of our dogs have stayed at high end hotels when we went to a wedding or Bar/Bat mitzvah.Room service is great for dogs, in these kinds of hotels. I guess they think that is what your dog is accustomed to.They can order from a special menu and it comes with a white towel to set their dish on. Some have also stayed at Motel 6. Our dogs really didn't care where they stayed as long as we stayed there too. Really,I like the high end hotels better.Motel 6 just doesn't have room service.
