ON THE BACK BURNER

I know. I know. Most of you do not watch the Cubs. But you really missed a great game Monday. For the Cubs, it moved pretty quickly. Our old mail lady in Evanston always said that her cottage was a baseball game away. She could leave Chicago at the first pitch and get to her cottage by the last inning. The game today was everything that a ball game should be. A little suspense, some mistakes, changes in pitchers, a possibility of a no hitter. Even singing. And Cubs win, Cubs win. No other team has the traditions as we do at Wrigley Field. At the seventh Inning we sing "Take me out to the ball game", with feeling. Then when they win we sing"Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go. The Chicago Cubs will win today "and the big W (for win, for those who don't know)flag gets put up. My first trip to the ball park was to bring Our youngest to his first  game. When they played the National Anthem and he put his baseball mitt over his heart, I cried. I still remember the feeling. Now , we take our Grandkids. That sure came full cycle for us.If you watched the   game, you could have seen the high rise that we lived in after we sold our house. Our view was not the field because we faced North. I said that was because I wanted to keep an eye on our old house in Evanston. Now I watch the Cubs on TV hoping that they show a view of the high rise. See what you missed.
