ON THE BACK BURNER

I guess that when you are an old dog, you sleep a lot. Noodle is still sleeping. I've been up for an hour. I'd say that he is smarter than I am. When I got out of my side of the bed, in the dark, there was a white thing on the floor.Lucky that once my feet hit the floor, my brain kicked in , and I didn't walk into the white thing. It was Noodle. He was on his back, zonked out. sleeping must make an old dog tired. In the few months that we have had him, he has designated me his alpha and follows me around. He responds some to my clapping my hands to get his attention. If he doesn't hear me, i try blowing on his coat. If he still doesn't respond, I touch him lightly. I don't like to do this because he gets startled and jumps. He immediately starts wagging his tail, but I don't think that it is good for him to be startled like that. Sometimes when we come in from doing an errand, he is sleeping right at the doorway. That's one way of knowing when we get home. He is so sound asleep, that we step over him and he still doesn't wake up. He does have playful moments. That is what they are, Moments. I love to see him jump with excitement. His little stubby legs don't leave the ground, but his body does. He smiles. Really. I think he likes us.
