ON THE BACK BURNER

I am a sky watcher. We have the most beautiful sky here in south west Florida. I don't even have to go to the beach to see it. I often see a rainbow , in late afternoon/early evening, when I turn right onto a certain street. It doesn't end at my condo, unfortunately. I am still looking for that pot of gold. After a rain, when everything in nature is set up right, I can walk out of my front door and see a rainbow. That is only between certain hours. A rainbow is so special that you have to time it just right to be lucky enough to see one. But I see shelf clouds a lot. I never knew what a shelf cloud was until I moved to Florida. When I was a kid, in New Orleans, I would lie on the neutral ground and watch the clouds form rabbits and dogs. I look up now, but I don't seem to have that imagination anymore. In case you don't know what a neutral ground is, in N.O. , It's that wide expanse of green grass(at least where we lived) with the street car tracks and a lot of decorative plants and small trees. Plenty of room for kids to sit out at night and watch the stars. We use to watch shooting stars and fireflies. I don't remember if we moved when we heard a street car. We were not on the tracks and quite safe where we were. This was when we lived on South Carrolton Ave., just after the bend from St. Charles Ave. It was there that I heard the newsboys yelling that Japan had struck Pearl Harbor and where we lived when Franklin Roosevelt died. That was a historical house for me, come to think of it.
