ON THE BACK BURNER

Wed. Think about how it feels to come face to face with your mortality. And it's over adopting a dog. It stings. I have been filling out applications for dog adoptions. You have to fill out any question that has an * next to it. The age question has an * next to it. I never felt old until I had to put down 82 and 87. To rescue centers, your 80's are not the new 70's. There is no age discrimination in the work force(supposedly) It is (supposedly)against the law. No such clause in doggie adoption applications. No where does it say age optional. I really did not ask for a puppy. That would be 10 to 16 years of being a doggie parent. I was thinking in terms of getting a dog in the 5 to 10 year pool. I was offered a 16 year old rescue. I do feel sorry for him, but I can see dollar signs floating in my head as he now needs medical care and soon ,we could expect to lose another heart breaker of a pet. I don't think that I want to go that route. I didn't know that it would be so hard to adopt a rescue dog. I have applications out all over Florida. We have already visited 3 rescue centers in the surrounding area. Pit bull mixes and chihauhaus , plus really big anxious dogs fill the kennels at the rescue places. My heart breaks for all of them, but they are not right for us.Well ,maybe the little chihauhaus. Our daughter has many of them and is an advocate for them. Who knows. One might be just the one. My heart will know.
