ON THE BACK BURNER

I can't promise for sure, but I am trying not to write about Cricket. Today, I am visiting a dog rescue facility here in Venice. I am thinking seriously of becoming a volunteer there, besides adopting a dog and giving him a forever home. We have not taken up Cricket's two water dishes, or her three beds. At night, I look at her bed in our bedroom and I forget she is not in it. We had the ritual of putting her to sleep. I say""Want to go to sleep" and she rolls over on her back for me to pick her up and carry her to her bed. Then I do and as I walk away, I turn back and wave to her. She then puts her head down and goes to sleep. We did this almost every night. One week without her doesn't remove this action from my memory bank. I wonder if our next pet will let me do the same thing or do we need to find a different tradition. New pet,new tradition, Healthier ,I think.
