ON THE BACK BURNER

I Am not always aware of what is going on in movies or TV. I just learned that there will soon be a release of a movie that stars Wonder Woman. It's about time. I hope that it is a success. I probably won't see it. It would shatter the vision I have of Wonder Woman from the comic books my Mother would read. I've written before how she taught herself English by reading comic books. I wish that I could teach myself a foreign language by reading comic books in their language. My Israeli daughter is reading children's books in Hebrew to help her in understanding the language. I still remember the comic books that we had around the house. Every month we bought a new one. I wish I had saved them. My Mother graduated to Reader's Digest after Wonder Woman. The old ones gravitated to the bathroom for leisurely reading. I liked the jokes. In seventh grade, my Language teacher had us read the condensed books that were in the back of each issue. I still have a favorite one. It was called "Momma's bank Account". There was definitely a moral to that story. At family crises time, when a child , during the depression, needed a few dollars for something important, Momma would say that they could find a solution. If the child really needed it, she would tell them, she could always go to her savings account. That savings account was so revered, that another solution was found. The child would find a way not to have to go to that sacred savings account. The kids became self sufficient adults with a heathy understanding of money. They later learned that momma never had that bank account. I loved that story.
