ON THE BACK BURNER

Last night at services,, the Rabbi, spoke about a subject that I have thought about. Men and the fact that they don't have those close relationships that woman do. We woman, have lady friends. We talk to them about our kids, our spouses, things that are bothering us. We call a friend and go to lunch. Men, for must be a wrongly perpetuated idea, are stoic and present a "stiff upper lip" All of this was related to the HafTarah portion of the week. In it Jonathan and David weep together and embrace because they are friends and will not see each other again. Women would have no problem with this form of intimacy. Men would possibly see this as unmanly to be so emotional .That's too bad. For everyone. I saw on TV a little report that Dad's talk more to their daughters than to their sons. That they are more demonstrative toward their daughters. Are the Dad's holding back because the son might later be a threat to their masculinity. It is cave man mentality, but I bet that is part of it. So, I give all of the men that I know permission to actively show their emotions. If you want to hug, cry, kiss, go for it. It will be a good thing.

Very good thought about men not showing their emotions too much to other men. It seems like when they domshow emotion it is to other women who are like sisters
