ON THE BACK BURNER

My daughter found a dime yesterday as we were walking to our car. I usually find pennies, so a dime was reason for celebration.People in my community don't seem to loose money. I always look around the gas pumps when I am filling up. In the old days, when men use to put their hands in their pockets while pumping gas, there were coins just waiting for me to pick up. Now with credit cards, no one has change.I had to use a few coins for some reason, the other day, and I had to study the nickel because I wasn't sure that it wasn't a quarter. Pretty sad. When I ran regularly with my running buddies, two of us had a competition to see who could find the most money over the course of a year. On New Years Day, we counted the change. She always won. I've found as much as a $10 bill. It was a bill stuck to the fence surrounding the city golf course on Lake Shore Drive and Irving Park Road. I figured that some golfers were betting on a hole and a bill flew away. Chicago is known as the Windy City for a reason. This was my most exciting money finding moment until yesterday when I brought home a purse that I bought at GoodWill. Now GoodWill gets its items from a central delivery point. You don't actually know where the thing you are buying is coming from. I found $130 in a compartment of the purse. I am donating it to our Congregation. But I will buy a Lottery ticket today, just in case i am on a roll.
