ON THE BACK BURNER

It happened again. It is so flattering that my first impulse is to say,"wait,I'll go right home and make one for you",It's the caplette that I wore. I wore it in a shopping mall in Jerusalem and a lady asked me to make her one. Which I did. Now the wait person at a place that I ate lunch in, asked about the caplette that I Was again wearing. This time, I held back and didn't say, give me your address and I will start knitting it for you. The lady in Israel ,it so happened, goes to an organization that has its meetings in the same building that my daughter takes her Hebrew lessons, so I at least knew a little about where she was coming from. In a short time, I had her daughters name (in the US) and had made arrangements for her to pay for the yarn. After I finished, I decided it was too complicated to exchange the cape for a check, so I suggested that she make a donation in that amount to any charitable organization that she liked. My daughter picked up the cape here in the states, when she came to visit me and brought it to the lady in Jerusalem.I've made this cape twice in a sunny yellow. This time for terminally ill friends. I wanted some sunshine in their lives. Neither survived , but I think it gave them comfort. Who knew that a knitted cape could be such a conversation starter and give me so much to write about.
