I had a flash back this morning. I saw a bunch of kids waiting for a school bus and that made me remember my days as a Jr. Counselor at the JCC in New Orleans. I brought my favorite sandwich for lunch. Two slices of pillow soft white bread, mayo and
a slice of bologna sausage. I liked and still do, sandwiches with hardly any filling. The bread had to be so soft that it stuck to the roof of my mouth. I still like that soft, pillowy bread, but I am ashamed to buy it. I go for the $4 a loaf artisan bread.
It's Ok, but it doesn't stick to the roof of my mouth and PB/J doesn't taste the same on it as on that Wonder Bread. When my Father would go to the Deli on a Sunday and come home with a loaf of rye bread, that was a once a week treat. We rubbed garlic on the
crust, then smeared it with butter. I like thin sandwiches because I like the bread better than the filling. At a restaurant ,when I order a sandwich, I take out 2/3s of the filling. I can make two happy sandwiches out of what I have on my plate.I think that
I can say, without shame now, that I am a carb girl.
