ON THE BACK BURNER

Someone told me, or I read it some place ,that butterflies are the souls of people who are dead. It's a nice thought. I see beautiful butterflies, floating around with the breeze. It would be a nice thought to think of people that you miss as having a chance to just laze in the sunshine and breeze and letting you, the living, see them and remember them for a few minutes. However, I find that too romantic . Butterflies don't live that long. Do they get to come back every cycle or season. What happens if you accidentally kill one. You would be heart broken to think that you were responsible for the death of someone that you were thinking about. So really, it isn't a good idea to metaphormize(is this a word?) a person who is dead. Notice, I don't say"passed away". That is a euphemism. They are dead. They haven't passed .They are gone. Memory of them is still here and maybe you can believe that there is a soul somewhere in the atmosphere. Don't you sometimes see a movement or an expression in your child and that triggers a remembrance of someone in the family who your child never saw or knew ? Maybe mannerisms are in our DNA. I love seeing butterflies flit around . I'll keep thinking of people that are no longer here when I see one. I guess that I really am a romantic.
