Our Rabbi gave an interesting sermon that gave us something to think about over the week end.. The question, in my words, were, why didn't the Israelite's seek revenge, pillar,rape and destroy property, when they were liberated from slavery. That's
what others did when they were given their freedom. They want to retaliate. Why did the Israelite's stay indoors and eat Pascal lamb and pray? The answer is.. Because if they did those horrific things that had been done to them, they would be just like the
Egyptian's , but now they were free to take control of themselves. And that is the problem. Control of self is a hard task. Putting aside wanting to get revenge, to retaliate,to make someone else look bad, takes a lot of control. For some reason ,and I'm not
sure why, but this brings to my mind our government in its present form. Name calling, back biting, lying,coverups, and insults seem to be due to a lack of self control. I wanted to wrap this up with some hopefulness about what could go on in Washington with
the message I got at services , but I just can't get passed the nastiness and lack of personal control. I will try to think of some thing positive . .........Dang, I just can't. Sorry. Sorry for me, sorry for our elected officials.
