ON THE BACK BURNER

In the Wednesday Food Section of the NYT, there is an article about "Miss Ella". She is the matriarch of the Brennan family who own many wonderful eating places in New Orleans. My favorite ,and many of you know this, is Commander's Palace. I have them on my speed dial and when I know that I am going to NO, I make my reservation there and then make my plane reservations. It's that hard to get a seating, but so worth it. They make a bread pudding dessert that I order before I tell the waitperson what my entree will be. It takes 45 minutes to prepare ,so I want to make sure they have time to make it in time for my dessert. I tried having them make me one to go, but they wouldn't . I guess they don't do doggie bags. I've never asked for one because I am a member in their clean plate club. I have met Ti Brennan, a daughter, and she gave me her card to call her anytime I need help with reservations. I won't, but I feel special just having the card. Once , we did the tasting menu. That was like eating ambrosia for five courses. I now have no remembrance of what I ate, just that it was worth every calorie. You don't want to brush your teeth after you eat a meal there. Now I can't wait until I drive down to NO with our Grandson's for a road trip that we are planning. It'll break the bank taking us all there, for a meal, but it is my duty as the family matriarch to introduce them to Miss Ella.
