I was reminiscing about giving up things for lent. I gave up things for Passover ,too, when I was a kid. The holiday of Passover often came during Easter time. I had to save my chocolate bunnies and marshmallow filled Easter eggs until after Passover.
I did get an Easter basket. By that time, the chocolate had a different , dried out look to it and the marshmallows were getting a little hard. I did get to dye eggs. It's a surprise that I even grew up with a Jewish identity since I got all of these mixed
messages. Ok to dye eggs, not OK to eat the Chocolate Easter bunny. Not OK to celebrate Christmas, but OK to hang a stocking on the living room lamp. In the stocking I got an orange and a candy bar. I was happy. You do know that I was never happy having a
birthday right next to Chanukah, Christmas and the New Year. I always wanted a day just for me, not celebrated with the world. I do have the choice, now, of picking my own day for a birthday celebration. But I can't decide what day it should be. I like summer,
so I was thing of the 4th of July. Only half of the world, or less, celebrates that date. I love picnics, so I could have a picnic. There that settles it. This year I will mark my 83rd birthday on July 4th. Hope I don't forget.
