ON THE BACK BURNER

I was going to remark about a musical program that our Congregation sponsored. I did come away from the program with a very interesting thought. The artist gave her interpretation of the "spark" that all of us have. That spark ,because we each have it, should make us more alike . If that be true, to my way of thinking, we should all be more loving and accepting , because of this commonality. But then this morning, I read that the Ringling Circus will cease operations this year. Now that is sad that we no longer have that spark that lets us be awed by the circus, to be filled with wonder at the trapeze artists and the animal acts. It makes me sad to think that our kids would rather play with their electronics than sit under a big tent and have cotton candy and popcorn and for a few hours be transported to another kind of life style. I am going to fight to keep my spark .I will carry the memory of going to the circus and being a little frightened and excited at the same time. I am even old enough to remember the side shows. That was a time when, I think ,we let our spark come out ,when we believed more in magic and make believe. Now I am really depressed. If our guest musician's interpretation of God moving over to make room for us and the spark exploding and giving each of us a piece of it, is so, then we have to dig down within ourselves and let those sparks be free, to let us be happy with who we are, to see the world as a place that lets kids go to a circus and be filled with excitement. I want to be spark filled. Pass it on.
