ON THE BACK BURNER

I am an early to bed and early to rise kind of person. This just works for me. My day usually ends after I turn off the kitchen light when the dishes are done from dinner. By that time,I'm happy to be through with the day. Like a lot of woman, and I don't know about men, I can go to sleep, soundly , but still hear and respond to a kid 3 bedrooms away or to a creak in the house that sets off alarm bells in my sleep cycle. How do men, and I Only speak for one, sleep through a kid talking in their sleep, walking in their sleep or sick and needing me? We Had a sleep walker among our kids. We also , had a double set of stairs. One from the front foyer and another going from the the back of the house, the kitchen. We had to put gates up so the sleep walker wouldn't go tumbling down during a sleep walking episode. Even though these same kids are grown up, and away, I still have this developed sense of hearing while my partner sleeps soundly. Only now, I hear Cricket cough or jump off of one bed to jump on another. I don't wake up, but I hear. My mother used to tell me that she had eyes on the back of her head. I guess I inherited ears that are like a radar screen. Just so my kids know,I can still hear them. I heard that !
