ON THE BACK BURNER

I wonder if people who celebrate Christmas here in sunny, warm Florida have trouble relating to the ads and hype about a white Christmas and visions of snow and hot chocolate? Do you get that same excitement when you go shopping for gifts and you are in shorts and flipflops. Even not celebrating Christmas, there is something exciting about snow on Christmas. It's like a promise of a clean ,clear message of the celebration of the day.On one of my trips to Israel, I went to Bethlehem. I wanted to see what I have heard about . The churches were filled with both tourist and with people who were moved by being there. I thought that people who had come thousands of miles to worship in these sacred spots were pushed through to quickly. I remember a small group of African women, in bright colorful , traditional dress , wanting to linger at a station in the Church and the guards rushed them so the next group could come and view. I felt bad for them. They were so overcome with emotion. I was too, because I thought of how I feel every time I go to the Kotel, the Western Wall. We all have to believe in what we believe in. It makes us alike.

It is a little hard to get into Christmas here in sunny Florida. You get used to seeing snow and there is t any. I guess it's all what you are used to.
