ON THE BACK BURNER

This is our last full day in Israel. There are a few things that I don't want to forget. Such as the concept of eating seasonally. If you want limes in December, you don't get limes in December. They are not in season here at that time. Potatoes, white, orange, red, are different. They don't cook up soft. There is always a bite to them. I was told that is because they don't store them the way that we do, preparing them for a long storage season. Fresh fruit tastes like the fruit that I remember from my childhood. I do know that in Florida we get some pretty good strawberries, but the ones that I have been having here are so sweet and large. No blueberries. They just don't grow in Israel. Period. Today I am going to get some spices that I need for some Mediterranean dishes that I like. They also have a horseradish that I fell in love with. It comes in a plastic jar, so I should be OK. While I am at the shopping mall getting my spices. I think that I will just mosey around and maybe pick up a few things , just because.
