ON THE BACK BURNER

It's Shabbat again. The street is mostly empty. Last night at Shabbat dinner, I met , for the second time, a woman from Texas , who lives here and has a passion for horse back riding. She does it in Jerusalem. Who knew. She has cowboy boots. With spurs, yet. I've always wanted cowboy boots. I'm not particularly fond of horses, but I still want the boots. Besides riding, having grown up with horses in Texas, she volunteers with people who use horse back riding as therapy. There is a reason for everything we do. You like to cook? Volunteer to work at a food kitchen. You like horses.? Volunteer to work with a therapy program. You like to read ? Volunteer to read to the kids. It's such a gift to be in a position to be able to give back your passion. And all I started out wanting is a pair of cowboy boots.
