ON THE BACK BURNER

Yesterday was Kotel day. The Kotel is also known as the Western Wall or the Wailing Wall and it was built in the time of King Herod. There was no wailing at the wall while we were there. There must have been close to 150 American teens and they were celebrating being there. They had formed a large circle and were singing songs in Hebrew and jumping up and down , just being appropriately teen agers on a class trip. It was refreshing to see them. Bob and I had to go to different sections of the wall to say our prayers and for me to leave a written message to put between the tremendous stones that are the wall.I looked for the one small section of the wall that is supposed to be egalitarian, but, not to my surprise, it was securely locked. No mixed praying allowed. !!!! Regardless of where you pray at the Kotel, the spirituality is overwhelming and no matter how often you go there, you are moved by a presence. It can be the history, the spirituality, the presence of other people praying , but you will be moved.
