ON THE BACK BURNER

It's Saturday in Israel. Nothing is moving. The street is still.I had a moment of panic when I thought that we had used up all of the coffee that I brought. I just couldn't see far enough into the freezer to see it. I first made a cup of instant, but I still can't figure out why someone would voluntarily drink it. The water for the french press that we use here is kept in a large electric container that has been set with a timer to keep the water hot. As a concession to us, the hot water has been turned on for our showers. Afterwards, I will turn the switch to turn it off. Because the water is solar warmed, It will stay hot for the rest of the day. Very efficient. While everyone else is at services, we will take a neighborhood walk. WE look for streets that aren't so hilly. I know now why there are so many benches around here. You have to stop and catch your breath. I'm doing pretty good. I can make it to the grocery store and back with only a little panting.Yesterday was a big shopping day. I went to the fish place, then to the chicken place and then to a store where I ordered a turkey for Thanksgiving.I haven't figured out why I couldn't do this in one store, but when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Wait, Where am I?
