ON THE BACK BURNER

I am planning for a daughters visit. Each of our four kids gets a different type of menu when they visit. No one is a fussy eater, but as a Jewish Mother, I want each to have what I think they like the most. One gets the brisket treatment. He seems to like the more traditional style of eating. This is also the time for bagels and lox and a special dill pickle. One child gets the Glatt Kosher treatment. That is ,to the best of our limited ability . I have learned that there is more than just the K on a package to make it acceptable.A trip to Trader Joe's for their Kosher poultry and any Kosher cheese that I can find is part of the visit.. We have pots and pans put away that are designated Kosher. It's easy and except for some minor changes in my cooking style, it's no big deal. Another kid likes to do the cooking, so if I have a pork tenderloin in the freezer she is happy to season and cook it. She also makes the best bean burritos. I always ask her to make them when she comes. That accounts for three. Number four is as easy. She's usually training for some long distance running event, so the eating is pretty straight forward. Avocado, lots of salads, fish, hummus. Some drink coffee, some drink tea, one has a glass of wine before dinner. A bottle of beer goes with another. If you are what you eat, then their eating is just like they are. Each different, but sensible, not sweating the small stuff. Easy peasy.
