ON THE BACK BURNER

Cricket was born in Florida. You would think that she would be accustomed to rain and thunder and lightening. I had thought that we never had a dog who reacted so violently to the weather. I was reminded that we did have a canine that howled when it thundered. We thought it was funny. That's because our kids were probably howling , too. We have a grandchild who gets migraines and can tell when the barometric pressure changes. Maybe that is Crickets problem.I feel for Cricket. It has to be hard to have your little body shake so violently. Her thunder shirt , which people laughed at when I first got it, does help, but sometimes I don't put it on her in time and she slinks around with her tail dragging on the floor and looks for me to pick her up. It does make me feel useful. We have a rain storm a day ,lately, but she still hasn't gotten used to the sound of the weather. She is smart enough to know that weather starts up in the sky. She sits and looks upwards. We see the anxiety on her face. I close as many vertical blinds that I can so she doesn't see outside, but that doesn't help. Maybe this will be the last rain storm of the season and she can get back her regular heart rate .
