ON THE BACK BURNER

- [ ] The clouds are outdoing themselves lately. When I take Cricket out for her evening outing, which is a very brief outing, the clouds are pink and puffy . I am always reminded of "red skies in the morning , sailors take warning. Red skies at night, sailors delight." At least that is what I learned in New Orleans. I've always lived near water. But not as a sailor. I never liked the speed of a speed boat. And I am not comfortable on a sail boat. Cruising works though. Another thing that works is slowly moving down the inter coastal waterway . I Like that. I can see land on both sides. My best water vehicle is an inner tube. That's my speed. I could spend hours plopped in the middle of a tube ,just floating in warm water. When I was a kid we would go to Covington, Louisiana, just 30 or so miles from N.O. and we would spend the day at the Boguafaoulia(my spelling, which I know is incorrect. Help me Jan) River. My family would picnic, after stopping at the one Kosher deli in N.O. ,buying Kaiser rolls and corn beef and ice. The ice went in a galvanized wash tub along with the bottles of coca cola and now sandwiches. Before we got to theCovington, which ,remember was no more than 30 miles away, we made one pit stop. After all, we were on a road trip. We stopped for refreshments (Cokes) and to play the nickel slots. Then we continued on our "trip". The icing of that trip was floating in the murky, warm water , in an inner tube. I stayed in that tube and water so long that at night when I fell asleep, I dreamt that I was still floating. Cool feeling when you are 10. I still love inner tubes. When ever I pass a 18 wheeler on the highway, I look at those tires and think that they would have a great inner tube in them. Do tires still have inner tubes. ? I'll have to fact check that.
