ON THE BACK BURNER

I haven't read a book from beginning to end in a while. I picked up this small book at the library and once I started it, I had to finish right to the end. It's a wonderful true story between a younger woman and a 90 something man. It's a love story in that they share life stories, she experiences the dignity of age, , and in the end, she learns more than she realized. His daughter is a friend of the younger woman who has asked her to call her Dad a few times to check on him while she is living out of town. He invites her over and cooks for her, a passion of his. Their friendship evolves around these meals.I am jealous that I have not yet found an Edward to befriend me, or to cook such fabulous dinners for me. I picked out some thoughts that I plan to mull over. To paraphrase one thought,"you have to be at peace in your head, where you are." And, ""we live in an age of communication but we don't know how to communicate." Probably not an original thought, but I think it appropriate. And this old truism.. The secret is to treat family like company and company like family. And the last one I wrote down is"give of yourself, not yourself. "I should have learned this one earlier. The book is,Dinner with Edward",by Isobel Vincent.
