ON THE BACK BURNER

I don't know what triggered this memory but I remembered the little one piece gowns that all our kids slept in for the first few months of their lives. Now they have onesy. We called our outfits, "sweet peas". If you read comic strips you remember that the littlest character in Pop Eye was named sweet pea and wore a gown similar to what I am talking about. We had them in generic yellow and mint color. Gender neutral. I can still picture our kids in those confining ,long sleeved, with little flaps that could cover their hands to keep them from scratching their face and tied at the bottom , gowns. They were probably indicative of the age that we brought them into the world. They didn't turn out all that conservative or restricted in their life style or in their independent thinking, so maybe we didn't ruin them by encasing them in these sweet pea gowns. Maybe it was these gowns that made them what they now are. Just something to think about.
