ON THE BACK BURNER

I've had two experiences with men with chain saws. I was reminded of these happenings when I saw men helping clear downed trees after the recent storms. Once in Colorado,my daughter and I were caught in a rapidly moving storm while we were on the road, going to her mountain home. Trees fell and blocked the road. Not to worry, the pick up truck right in front of just happened to have a chain saw in the trunk. In minutes, the road was clear, the sun came out and we continued on to her cabin. The second time was when a freak tornado swept across our small lake in Michigan. We had a cottage there for over thirty years and had never heard of a tornado in that part of the state. Bob had picked me up at the airport and we just came to our country road that leads to our cottage. There is only one way in and the same way out on this road. We were on the wrong side of a downed tree. Some neighbor pulled out their chain saw and we soon had a clear path . Here's the funny part. Different neighbors, at different gatherings, for years afterwards, told the story of the down tree and the chain saw as if they , and they only were the hero. I guess it depended on which side of the tree you were on.
