ON THE BACK BURNER

I can't believe that I am so naive.I use to believe that someone actually made the biscuits at my neighborhood McDonald's. I had this picture in my head that some Granny was up early rolling those biscuits. I was 60 when I learned that they were shipped in frozen .That was disillusioning. I should have know better. I don't believe in the tooth fairy, but I never discouraged my kids from believing as long as they could. I never told them that there wasn't a Santa Claus. I just said that he didn't come to our.house because we were Jewish. They must have been as naive as I was, because they never questioned me about it. It could have helped that we had a neighbor who didn't have a fireplace and We would offer to let their kids use ours to wait for Santa . We did get into the spirit of Christmas by Alway lending my Electrolux vacuum to another neighbor to suck up all of their dried Christmas tree needles. To reciprocate they had us over Christmas Eve for Swedish pancakes with lingonberry preserves and whipped cream. I have a life time love for lingonberry preserves now. I can't go to Ikea and get it without thinking of the Helbig's. Not so much pine needles.
