ON THE BACK BURNER

I have news for those of us married longer than fifty years. If you want a copy of your marriage license, you've been married so long that the license has been archived.. I wanted a copy of my license .I applied to the New Orleans ,Orleans Parish Department of Health, Vital Records. I was surprised when I heard back that I have to go to another department, the archives . Didn't they think that people would stay married for longer then fifty years. But now that I think about it,when I applied for Bob's Air Force Discharge Papers, his were archived too. In his case, it was more dramatic. The letter came back saying that the building in which these discharge papers were archived had had a fire and the records were all lost. It was OK though, because this letter was enough documentation along with other official discharge material that I had. I'm a little insulted that my marriage license is archived. It's as if the Parrish of Orleans(in Louisiana we have parishes instead of counties) has put us out to pasture. If 60 is the new 50 ,then a marriage of 60 years could be thought of as the new enough to be in the active files and not archived. I don't know, I just don't feel like my marriage should be archived. We are not that ancient. Humph ! I am indignant. This makes me feel like an antique.
