ON THE BACK BURNER

My day really started off well. I enjoy my morning walk with Cricket. She has trained several walkers to carry a treat for her. We always have pleasant exchanges and Cricket gets petted and fed. We meet some of Cricket's dog friends, those that are still here. They communicate with each other and then we walk home. All good. I am trying to remember this because it wasn't that good for the rest of the day. At a funeral luncheon , I bit my tongue so severely that it swelled, it is bruised and it hurts. I was eating a bagel. It is very difficult to talk with your tongue hurting and swollen. Then I got home and two emergency vehicle were in my drive way. Thank God not for my house. My upstairs neighbor who has been fighting Cancer needed assistance . They transported him to the hospital. That was worrisome. After dinner, as I was walking Cricket, we met another neighbor walking her small dog. She needed to talk. Her Dad had died a few weeks ago. He had been a Minister. She talked about how hard that was on the family. How she moved over 20 times as the Congregations kept releasing him and the main head church kept assigning him and the family to smaller and smaller communities. She was pouring out all of this. Anger, resentment, sorrow. I saw the stages of grieving, and I was one block from home. Then I saw my upstairs neighbor's children standing in the driveway, each talking on a phone. I instinctively knew something was wrong. My upstairs neighbor passed away soon after arriving at the hospital. You know how people say,But I just saw him yesterday ? You looked peaceful, Jon. I'll remember you like that
