ON THE BACK BURNER

I had a turkey dinner last night at a local restaurant. It sounded like a good idea, but actually, it wasn't. It lacked family, and noise from dogs fighting under the table for a scrap that may have gotten away. The table was too sterile, it just wasn't right. We asked the young waitress if the turkey was baked here at the restaurant and she said that it was. I should have asked if it was a whole turkey or just those nicely formed turkey rolls that are easy to slice on a slicer. That is what the turkey was. OK for a lunch counter sandwich, but not my idea of a real turkey dinner. Now I am so committed to a turkey dinner that I will order a turkey and bake a dinner. I still have one bag of cranberries In my freezer. That was included on my restaurant meal, a little serving of cranberry sauce. I ate that right up. I even asked for seconds on that and got it. It's not the restaurants fault that I was disappointed about my meal. It just wasn't family and that is what Thanksgiving is all about, even in July.
