ON THE BACK BURNER

Some sayings that our kids have come up with over the years have become family mementoes. They popped into my head the other day. Some of my all time favorites are: "for a good time, see Mom". I hope that is still true. Then we had the one that I can still hear as they ran up the stairs to be the first in the shower. The loser consoled herself by saying "He who bathes last bathes best. " I guess when four kids share a bathroom ,that is a very positive way of looking at who gets the cold shower. Then we had "It's a torrange day". That was a description of a grey ,cold day in Chicago.Torrange never happened in the summer time. Whenever one of the kids was asked by a busy body what their Dad did, they came up with this,"he makes money". I think that came about when our youngest would sit on his Dad's lap, in his office, and his dad would put a dollar bill in the carriage of the typewriter and roll it out. Another really favorite and one that we still use is "it's a readable eatable meal". We always let the kids read at the table when Bob was out of town. Some times the reading material was a label on the catsup bottle, but it qualified as reading. They would quiz each other on the small print, contents on the back of the cereal boxes. Those were happy times and I love the memories .It's good to look back and remember .And laugh.
