ON THE BACK BURNER

I had to compile a list of important phone numbers for our kids, which made me go to my ancient address book. Does anyone even have an address book anymore? I email more than write snail mail,or use the phone, so it was like a personal history of my past life. There were Chicago doctors, Evanston friends from our Temple, favorite restaurants and merchants that I used for special purchases. Like a quilter that I sent a quilt to for her to do the final machine quilting on a large quilt that I made. I remember the quilt. I don't remember who I was making it for. I do remember cutting the pieces by laying the fabric on the floor of our high rise apartment. I have the number of the doggie day care that Charlie two went to.I thought he needed socializing, He spent too much time with adults. He loved his day at "camp".Then there were our neighbor's from around our cottage. I don't know why I have their addresses because we were never friends enough that I would need to call them. Maybe I had to write condolence notes, or something. Then the book skips to my present life. Numbers of my Florida friends and physicians and veterinarians, people who paint, plumb, and are electricians. On the U pages, I need to expand over onto V's, there are so many scratched out numbers and new ones put in that on some of them, I'm not sure which is the correct number. Since I use speed dial for most of the U's, I'm going to have to call the number and see who answers. That'll be fun, but I won't scratch out the number if it is no longer right. It's part of my history.
