ON THE BACK BURNER

I remember the day that I realized that I was gaining weight. It was 10 years ago. We had a condo facing the gulf in Gulfport ,Mississippi. We had found a great place for fried oyster po ' boy sandwiches. Those sandwiches were so good, that even though the oysters had a breading , were deep fried, served on a wonderful French bread, smeared with mayo, given a chance, I'd eat them again in a heart beat. We'd stand in line with everybody else to get our "dressed" po ' boys. We never deviated. No fried shrimp po ' boys or roast beef for us. Then we would take them across the road, sit on the sand and eat them while keeping the sand and seagulls at bay. It wasn't the po' yo sandwiches that put on the weight. It was sitting on the sand. Katrina ended that episode in our lives. Now I want to give full credit to the start of my decline in weight control to this wonderful sandwich.I had nothing to do with it. It was not my fault. Sigh!
