I almost forgot. Today is Mardi Gras. I hope everyone had a good time. It used to be a time that separated the haves from the have nots. That was when Mardi Gras was fun. I didn't know that I had a label. I just wanted the beads and the day off from
school. Many days off from school. New Orleans was a Catholic city and we had a lot of religious days off. We did not have Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur off in those days. I don't know if they do now, but I would guess that they do.We always had a King Cake.
That was a coffee cake with green ,purple, and yellow sprinkles , generously sprinkled over the cake. Inside was a china doll .The person who got the baby in their slice had to give the next party. Originally the baby was supposed to be symbolic of baby Jesus.
I don't think a lot of people even think about that and just look for the next party. The cake , for the record, wasn't very good.
