ON THE BACK BURNER

My age is 81. My husband is 86. I mention this because I think numbers are important. I have been telling people that Cricket is 5 or 6. Our vet just said that she is between 8 and 10. He tells by the film, not cataracts , that she has on her eyes. Now the question. Should I tell her. Would she be as proud of her age as Bob and I are of ours. Would people treat her differently when they find out that she is not a puppy but a senior dog. Most people don't treat me differently when they find out my age.Well, I take that back. Our children are calling more and visit more often. And the teen agers who live upstairs are very solicitous of us. When they see us they won't let us take our garbage to the curb or carry our groceries into our condo. Sweet. They told me once that they don't know anyone as old as us. Cute. Should I now treat Cricket differently. When she puts on the brakes on a walk, should I pick her up and carry her home ? I have been known to do that, even before I found out how old she is. No, I'll do the same thing for her as I want people to do for me. I'll just say "gee, you look good for your age.."
