I'm reading a book about Mr. Susuki, the violin guru for young children. He was an interesting man. His philosophy is that every child is born with ability and talent. It has to be nurtured since conception. Makes sense. This made me think of the kids
who grow up in less fortunate circumstances. If you take the kid out of that environment, put him in a nurturing surroundings, with love and respect, can he grow up law abiding, loving, peaceful, productive ? Mr. Susuki thought so. He taught music like this.
His method seems to work with music.I am trying to relate his philosophy to real life . I get it, that when a Palestinian kid throws rocks at Jews he is getting approval someplace.Home , maybe? Prune the tree the kid fell from and he will become a better person?
Take the gun from the kid on the south side of Chicago and make it into a musical instrument? Sounds good, but it'll take more generations then I'll be around for. Too bad. I like the theory. But then I am a white liberal Jew.
