ON THE BACK BURNER

I had Shabbat Dinner with an Israeli family . It was a fantastic home, with heated stone floors, books everywhere and every inch of space with a shelf or a cabinet. And the food was wonderful, just as I was promised. Again, the plates were passed with veggies, meatballs ( a favorite, it seems) , chicken, cauliflower, stewed veggies, soup, then dessert. On the table were seltzer water, water, orange juice, red wine. Tea all around, no coffee. Which is good because everyone seems to use instant coffee and I do have my standards. Their son was there, recovering from surgery. He was, of course, young ,handsome and in the IDF. A baby with a gun. Which I hope that he never has to use. The family was so gracious to me. I invited myself to move in with them and they'd didn't say no.
