Nov.5 I have been found out. And very publically. The Latest Pew Report says that 57% of US Jews eat bacon. I guess I was out when the polling took place, but I am among that number. My first ham sandwich was just after WW (Two, not one) . A military
friend of the family brought us a ham from the PX. PX is Post Exchange and that is where service people and their families shopped for food, pots and pans, everything. Top of the line and at a great discount. (I still have one pot with the cover from when
I shopped there 60 years ago) Meat was still rationed, my Grandmother had died and the ham came in. Kosher went out and pork came in. I don't think my Mother knew what to do with the ham and for the most part, we had sandwiches until it was just the bone.
Then it was red beans and rice. Now we call that our secret ingredient when something tastes really good and we can't identify the ingredient. I'm glad I was found out. It was a heavy burden to keep secret.
