ON THE BACK BURNER

3October 3 Our Rabbi, in a sermon used the phrase"Who am I to judge?" Well ,that has become our watch word. So many times it seems the most appropriate thing to think or to say. Your pudgy friend asks you, "how do I look in these tights?". You think to yourself,"Who am I to Judge?", as you say,"you look great. They are very slimming. " Just think of all of the trouble that you can stay away from if you use this phrase. It gets you off the hook. It keeps you from saying something rude, hurtful, stupid or truthful. If the person you are saying this to was at the service, they would laugh with you. They'd get the point. "Yes,maybe I really shouldn't wear tights. Thanks for being kind about it." Another good word to use is"special". If something is really over the top, bizarre, blatant,I have more than you thing, just say,"isn't that special". I learned this from a favorite sister in law. It works, too. The person bragging, doesn't get it because they are so into themselves. So remember the two phrases. They'll keep you out of a number of social faux pas.
