ON THE BACK BURNER

Labor Day used to be a big thing in our house. It meant putting our raft away at our cottage. It meant finding our dog's leash because now he will be a city dog and not free ranging. It meant cleaning out the fridge and not having to throw so much away because our eyes were bigger at the grocery store then they should have been. It meant driving back to Chicago. It meant sitting in traffic on the Dan Ryan Express way when someone had to go to the bath room. It meant that the next day was the day we took the kids to buy shoes for school and to go to Chandler's for school books and supplies. It meant coming into our house with veggies from the Michigan farms, loads of sandy laundry and the fight of who took the first shower. That's where our slogan"he who bathes last, bathes best" came about. Our family has a slogan for everything. One I particularly like is, "for a good time, see Mom". That's really my favorite. It still holds true.
