ON THE BACK BURNER

Our Torah portion this week was about returning lost things to their owners. I interpreted that to mean that if a dog ever followed me home, I would have to try and find it's owner. I would try, especially since many dogs have chips, but I have always wanted a dog to follow me home. Ever since I was a kid, I have wanted this. I always wanted to say, "but he just followed me home". Other people find dogs. I never have and I still want to. I would be a perfect candidate for a dog to follow me home. It could probably be very happy here in our house. I wonder why some dog has never followed me . I sometimes hear that someone found a dog on the side of a road. I'm in our car a lot, we've driven through many states, and I have never seen a dog on the side of the road, waiting for us to pick him up. How do other people find these dogs. I will be more observant the next time I am driving. Instead of watching for Sand Hill Cranes who walk in front of my car, I will look more carefully for that lost dog that I know one day will just appear ,waiting on the corner for me to take home. I almost forgot.. I have to try and find it's owner. That's part of the deal. But after that,as it says in the Torah, I am committed to take care of it. That is exactly what I plan on doing.
