School is about to start and that brings back two memories for me. It will soon be World Series time and we are still in Hurricane season. I have to admit that when I was a kid , especially in what would now be middle school, I really looked forward
to hurricane's. We got a few days off of school, my Daddy stayed home from work and we could expect our electricity to go off. The bath tub was filled with water. That was sorta like the "boil water" scene when in the movies the cowboy would act as midwife
and say that line..."boil water". As far as I can remember, we never needed the water. The loss of electricity was a little inconvenient, but not that big a deal. The greatest fun was going out during the "eye" of the hurricane. Everything had a greenish glow
and we could watch the street car overhead wires catch fire and burn. I can't believe how dumb we were and our parents let us do this ! The second best memory was the World Series. We always listened on the radio and later on TV. It was a bonding time for
the three of us. My only sibling was away at school by this time. We never cared who played. Every fall I remember these times. There are still World Series, still hurricanes, but I know better about which one to look forward too.
