There are a few expressions that I do not like. One is,"the one who wins wanted it more". Or words to that effect. If you are a competitor, and you have given hours and energy to a particular sport, of course you go into it wanting to win. Who ever
came up with that expression, anyway. Another expression that I do not like is"it was for the best". Tell that to someone who just had a loss. That's heartless and I hope that I have never said that to anyone. Better to say nothing, even if you are thinking
just that. An expression that we always used in our house when the kids were little is",he who bathes last, bathes best". I don't know how that started, but it must have evolved from our not having hot water at our cottage and after a 4 hour car ride to get
back to civilization. You'd think that the first bather would be the best. It must have been that we had a hot water heater big enough for 6 people and was cause for celebration. Another expression we had was" for a good time ,see Mom". That still holds.
