ON THE BACK BURNER

I am making a very complicated knitted cape. Every row has a different stitch count. I am working on the back panel. Most pattern's begin with the front panel. I have determined that this is opposite of conventional wisdom. My second side, the back, is looking better than the first side, the front. That is because by the time I got to the back, I am pretty good at following the pattern. The front looks good, but the back is even better. It's like that with socks that I knit. I make the first sock and then I don't always feel like completing the second sock. There is a name for this., It's second sock syndrome. Really. I am thinking about making the second sock first, next time ! Knitting is relaxing for me, even with this complicated pattern. And I don't mind ripping. I expect to. It's part of the knit process. It's like my ironing ,mindless. Even with a complicated pattern, you get in the rhythm of ripping. The nice thing about knitting is that you can always start fresh and no one can tell that you started new, several times. Unlike cooking, if you burn some thing on your electric stove, the smoke detecter goes off and everyone in your condo knows that you made a mistake. I say, more knitting, less cooking. That seems sensible.
