I went to a local book store to buy a book that I had read while in Israel. I liked it so much , that I wanted to buy a few as gifts. The sales person, said that he was reading it right now and if I liked that book, he recommended another one for me.
Not wanting to negate his taste in books ,I bought it. I'm reading it now. The book I liked so much is "Salt". The book he recommended is about drinks. It's just OK. But I do know a lot now about beer, wine ,liquor, coffee , tea and Coke. I did learn why we
clink glasses with friends. It's because we all use to drink out of the same vessel, with a straw like reed. A communal drink. It denotes friendship and fellowship.So clinking glasses is a throw back to when the liquid all came out of the same urn. The first
farmers who stayed in one place , had a reason to. They wanted to guard the grain ,to make the mash , to make the beer. Who knew. Every one drank beer way back when. It was more sanitary than the water supply since you had to boil the ingredients to make the
brew. I just know so much now. Wait until I get to liquor. They are probably going to tell me it was an antiseptic. Right !?
