ON THE BACK BURNER

I am reading a book, written by a Japanese woman, about decluttering your life. I am trying to read it in the order in which she wrote it. But I keep jumping around. I am particularly interested in what to do about pictures and what to do with boxes that the kids send home to Mom because they don't have room for them. We reversed this and sent boxes to a daughter who had a large basement. When we can't find something, it gives us security to say that it must be safe in her basement. Please don't tell me if it was thrown away. Photo's. I want to get rid of them, but they are a history of people we no longer know and places that we don't remember going to. Then the really old registry of check numbers and amounts. Banks are computerized now, I can access them in a few minutes. Then the declutter maven told me to get rid of equipment manuals. If I need to know how to self fix , I can go on line, which I have done. I absolutely will not part with my Mother in laws beautiful china, even though I've used it twice in 15 years. It gives me pleasure. And that is the whole idea. If something gives you pleasure , keep it. If it is just a thing with no soul, get rid of it. OK. Out goes the warranty papers of equipment that I no longer own, the old bobbie pins, the old samples from Disney ,the free shower caps from Hilton Hotel. I'm afraid to read more. What else can I get rid of. Don't tempt me.
