ON THE BACK BURNER

I like to watch "Pioneer Woman "on the Food Network. Today she is recounting her history by preparing dishes that she loved at periods of her life. Great idea. I will see what I remember. Fried chicken. My Mother was not a great cook, but she did a wonderful fried chicken. I remember helping her do it for my lunch when I was invited to be on a Mardi Gras float with my date. Her secret ingredient--Bisquick. Then ,there is my sisters Chop Suey. Canned Chinese veggies, canned chop suey noodles, over cooked boiled chicken, soy sauce. I'd gag if I ate this now. We thought my sister was so creative with this recipe. Then there was the fondue craze. I had the pot, the skewers. We loved that with beef cubes . Forget the veggies, just pure beef. Then I was on a beef tenderloin kick. It was much cheaper back then. And cherry tantrum. That's the name we gave to a dessert that was made with canned cherry pie filling and cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk ,poured into a prepared graham cracker crumb crust. We served it often. What do I like for this period in my food history..I never turn down a bowl of chicken soup with egg noodles. But you knew that.
