ON THE BACK BURNER

The murders of people watching the 4 th of July parade in Highland Park,is as close as I have been to this reoccurring kind of tragedy. Highland Park is considered the north shore of Chicago. Evanston, where we lived and raised our family ,is the first suburb on the north shore, which is north of Chicago. Evanston and Highland Park were family friendly. Highland Park was my destination when  I ran and  I had to put miles in , training for a marathon.I was upset and slightly nauseated when I heard about the shootings. I thought that I no longer knew anyone there. Then ,my daughter reminded me that her husband, my son in law grew up there. That his Mom ,his brother and his family still live there. That his brother and his wife were at the parade and like every one there, left everything and ran. Thank God, his 90 something year old Mom decided not to go. They were not hurt . What can I say to all of this craziness. I grieve for the families,I hurt that now families won't want to put their kids in that kind of a public space and they will miss out on the simple fun of going to parades and festivals. You say that you won't let one shooter with an assault weapon stop you from going places ? Well, it would stop me and make me reconsider my families safety until those weapons are made into plow shares.
